Mike The Boilerman I specialise in mending boilers (central heating and hot water boilers that is, not steam engine boilers!) In particular I specialise in maintaining older, non-condensing boilers which these days people are beginning to see as 'vintage' or 'classic' boilers, well worth keeping due to their simplicity and general reliability compared to modern condensing boilers. These tend to be the boilers other technicians are prone to declaring "can't be fixed mate (or Luv), can't get the parts".
Services
I repair boilers for a living and I don't install. Consequently I don't have the conflict of interest of many plumbers - repair your boiler breakdown for hundreds or try to sell you a new boiler for thousands? I'll repair yours if possible which is nearly always, without trying to sell you a new one.
He was on time for the appointment, showed enthusiasm facing the challenge of my boiler, listened to the background and everything I wanted to put forward for him to identify the fault, demonstrated a detailed understanding of the machine and how to fix it, had every possible spare part in his van and informed me about how things work and what potential failure I could face in near future.
I can usually achieve a repair in a single visit to any of these boilers as I keep a stock of the commonly failing parts for all these in the van. These aren't the only boilers I specialise in though, so if you have a boiler not on this list please still feel free to contract me! 07866 766364.
I get quite a few calls from people saying the pilot light on their Potterton Netaheat has gone out and the can't work out how to re-light it. Here is a short video explaining why this is normal. I've written quite a lot about the Potterton Netaheat boiler and the faults and breakdowns that occasionally happen, and what can be done about them.

Our 29 year old Potterton boiler packed up. Our local plumber informed us we needed a new boiler. We found Mike online. He talked us through various options to diagnose what the fault might be. Thanks to him we discovered the fault was in the pump not the boiler. His prompt and very helpful advice saved us a lot of money and got the house warming again. This sort of help is so rare and so very much appreciated.

I cannot praise Mike the boilerman highly enough. His knowledge, honesty, professionalism, support & caring attitude go beyond and above. I was most desperate when I found Mike's details online: the company that installed the system washed their hands, the manufacturer told me that the system was out of the (2 years) warranty and could not help. The local warm air engineer told me that the system was "rubbish" and should be replaced. Mike was very honest and told me that he did not know my system (WarmCair C16D - a rather new system) but took the time & trouble to familiarize himself with the system and talked to the manufacturer before his visit.

He further liaised with the manufacturer regarding the parts required to fix the problem. I am also so very grateful for his amazing fast response. Thank you so very much Mike, you are the best

We had a problem when a previous engineer unfamiliar with warm air systems did some work on our meter which left the unit no longer working after he left. Mike was brilliant and resolved it straight away. Thank you so much for your honest and professional service! Service:Water heater repair

Despite having a British Gas Homecare contract, their engineer failed to correctly diagnose and fix our non functioning Potterton Suprima central heating boiler. He said the problem was either caused by sludge/limescale in the system or a faulty heat exchanger so advised us to begin with a power flush. However, he said if this didn't fix the problem then the heat exchanger would be the culprit and we would need a new boiler.

Before going ahead, we decided to get a second opinion as both of these options are extremely expensive. Looking online, we found Mike who truly is a boiler and central heating expert! In next to no time, Mike had diagnosed and fixed our boiler! Apparently, a faulty pcb had caused the boiler breakdown, not the heat exchanger or the sludge in the system.

Thank you so much, Mike, for your amazing expertise! You saved us considerable and unnecessary expense and mess. We wouldn't hesitate to call upon your services again and would certainly recommend you. Hopefully, you aren't thinking of retiring just yet!

Please do not give up hope for your Boilermate2. I'm just so glad that I didn't - I simply put Boilermate2 repairs into Google, and up came Mike the Boilerman. My hot water had practically given up - it ran hot for about five seconds, then became lukewarm and stayed like that. I contacted Mike by email, and had a reply in very quick time the same day. Whilst others had said my Boilermate2 needed replacing for thousands of pounds, Mike did not.

It appears that pretty well everything is still repairable on these. From a few quick questions and answers over email, Mike thought the issue was the Blending Valve. A few weeks ago I wouldn't have even know what one was, being a total novice plumber and just a bit of a diy'er! However, with Mike's very extensive knowledge and years of experience with all kinds of boilers, (including old and unusual types), he was able to give me enough kind help and encouragement to try and fix this myself (as I am over 200 miles away from his base).

After purchasing the necessary part and some very large spanners etc. online I tackled this replacement myself on Thursday, and am so pleased to say that Mike's diagnosis of the issues was spot on, and it's now totally cured! I still cannot believe what a transformation to the hot water this has been - simply unbelievable, lots and lots of hot water at all outlets. Mike was so responsive, knowledgable, kind and helpful that he's got to be a real one-off engineer, and I genuinely believe you won't find better.

I read all the information on his website and Facebook, where I found lots of very useful information as well, which is very detailed and informative. There really is no need to look any further once you've found Mike the boilerman, he is the best, and I'm just so glad that I took his advice, rather than others who simply wanted to write off my Boilermate2 and install a very very expensive replacement. I really cannot thank Mike enough.

I have been trying for 3 years to get my warm air heating sorted. I have spent a lot of money and had numerous heating engineers out to look at it and still couldn't get any heat upstairs. A quick text conversation with Mike and I now know what is wrong and how to fix it. Mike is the most knowledgeable and helpful trades man ever! Thank you!
